General FAQs

  • It all starts with a consultation. We know information can be overwhelming and you want to make changes NOW to feel more like yourself.

We’re happy to speak with you one on one, answer questions or explain our procedures and processes in detail. The more we know about each other the better Sigil Studio can create a plan to help you. Get in touch with us and we’ll take it from there!

  • Sigil Studio is not your typical SMP/PMU clinic. We’re artist owned and operated- providing THE latest in technology and techniques in a welcoming space that puts your needs first. We combine real world experience, theory, and training to provide the best results possible and exceed your expectations.

  • NO.

Our work looks like the best version of your features- not a decorative artwork. It’s You +

Like traditional tattoos, our procedures insert pigment under the skin with a needle- but that’s the end of the comparison. Inks and compounds are specialized as are the techniques and equipment used to bring forth your inner self. Overall our work is less invasive and far less painful than traditional tattoo applications.

  • Areola reconstruction services are often covered by insurance, please consult your provider. We are able to process and accept for this procedure.

  • Not much.

It’s not like a regular tattoo which pushes deep into the skin- in fact many of our clients have remarked they find the procedures relaxing as there’s a gentle constant buzz feeling to the area being worked. We understand each client has a unique sense of what is and isn’t painful and we will work with you to the best of our ability to ensure your comfort while keeping to the highest standard of quality.

  • The time needed depends on the work being done. Expect at least an hour and usually one to three depending on your procedure. In life all times are variable, so please understand and plan your day accordingly.

  • After your procedure it’s best to take it easy for a few days. Your practitioner can answer any specific questions you have, but in general, please avoid: saunas, or activities that result in large amounts of sweat, bodies of water- from bathtubs to oceans, touching the area of your procedure, or shampooing your hair if you’ve had SMP.

For more details about after care- see here.

  • Almost.

PMU and SMP are long lasting but not considered permanent despite the name “Permanent Makeup.” Our procedures don’t go as deep into your skin as traditional tattoos, and thus easier for your body to break apart. The upside is they can be re-applied- ensuring you always look fresh and effortlessly perfect!

For more see our FAQ: “Touch Ups, Changes and Freaking Lasers?”

  • Most of our procedures require multiple sessions- these are essential to completing the process and your work isn’t complete until all your sessions are done. These are follow up sessions NOT touch up sessions.

Eventually you will most likely benefit from a touch up. Over time your body is going to break down the ink deposited during your procedure. This natural process along with UV exposure, time, stress, alcohol, smoking and other factors help to degrade the completed work. The time frame for touch ups varies for each kind of procedure, for SMP usually 5- 7 years, for Lip Blush, about 6 to 8 months.

Touch Ups are an ideal time to address any changes to your original work. If the window is open to making changes we can incorporate that into the session.

Some changes may require the removal of remainders of your prior work. Nothing is forever, but also nothing is ever really gone- such is life- unless lasers are involved. Old work can be lasered off, clearing a path for new work and changes. It’s essential to coordinate the dates of removal and new work, so please loop us in ASAP. Depending on the circumstances, new work may fall under the touch up or new procedure category after removal

  • Yes!

For most healthy people with uncompromised immune systems our procedures are low risk. Every practitioner has passed a rigorous blood pathogens/health and safety course. Sigil Studio is regulated by the states we operate in to strict standards regarding our physical space, equipment and practices. All needles are single use and come pre-packaged and sterilized. When appropriate, we provide aftercare instructions and materials for each client. As with any procedure that punctures the skin, there is always a slight risk of infection, though this can be greatly minimized with proper aftercare.

If you have a compromised immune system, please confirm with your Dr. you’re healthy enough to get a tattoo. Clients with some forms of Diabetes, Eczema, Psoriasis, Allergies, Hepatitis, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, Lupus or other body inflammation issues, including long haul C-19 (covid) may not be suitable prospects for our procedures- likewise if you’re on blood thinners, steroids or have thinning skin, or are prone to scarring or Keloid Scarring.

  • The time needed depends on the work being done. Expect around one to three hours for each session of work for Scalp Micropigmentation, the entire process may take two to four sessions. BB-Glow can be completed in one session usually one to one and a half hours, lips in two hours plus a short follow up visit.

  • Not so fast, there!

While our services are low risk, your body is already doing a lot of work to keep you going at your best. Conducting our procedures over the course of a few visits allows us to ensure the treatments are progressing well and keeps the quality of work top-notch too.

  • We’re finicky about what we put in our bodies and expect you may be too. The type of ink used depends on the procedure being conducted. We source only the highest grade inks, time tested for safety and staying power. Safety Data Sheets (SDS) can be made available to you on request at your procedure, please inquire ahead of time so we may have a print version handy for you.

You may have heard some people talk about “organic inks,” and that’s kind of a real thing, but also not a real thing. Wha? - no inks are certified organic. Certification involves adhering to strict requirements at every step of production. Inks can be “organic” in the sense that they’re not synthetic and that’s about it. We’re happy to nerd out on chemical compositions if you want to know more, or are just having trouble going to sleep.

  • No.

There are many ways to remove a tattoo and sometimes their removal is not necessary for your procedure. Just one of many reasons why we always provide a personal consultation before work. If you do require a removal we are happy to make recommendations about providers and coordinate with you to schedule your new work post removal.

  • We can only accept one client at a time. The nature of our work is best suited to a one on one environment.

  • Sigil Studio is by appointment only- please call, text or e-mail us to arrange a visit. We’re happy to do our best to conform to your schedule.

  • Not really.

Tattoos shift color over time for a few reasons: the pigment is broken down by your body, the pigment is oxidized within your body- altering its structure, and traditional tattoo work is performed at a deeper skin level so there’s more skin between your tattoo and the naked eye, helping create a cloudy and tinted appearance.

SMP/PMU inks by contrast are placed more shallowly into your skin. Like everything it will age over time and likely need to be freshened up.

  • In its most basic form it’s a mark that symbolizes power or change- in our case it’s the marks we make on your skin that empower you to feel more like yourself.

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)

  • Use our online form to send us your contact information and upload pictures. We’ll be in touch. Then we book a time and your first session is right around the corner!

  • Long hair, short hair, no hair- all the same.

Clients who have no hair, or hardly any hair and clients who have a lot of hair that’s more sparsely placed than they’d like can all receive SMP.

IF you have very little to no hair, it’s best to consider your long range plan before committing to SMP. For instance, if you have a receding hairline and want to extend it to a more full coverage with SMP, you should be prepared to keep your actual hair clipped short. If you allow it to grow- it will break the illusion of full coverage that SMP creates. A little stubble is great but too much more than that works against the goal of SMP.

For longer hair clients- our goal is to manipulate the contrast of exposed skin and hair. The SMP takes advantage of shadows created by the existing hair to help conceal thin or bald areas.

  • Usually a full procedure is comprised of two to three sessions, spaced 10 to 14 days apart. Each session lasts about 3 to 4 hours. Results are apparent after the first session and build towards a final result

  • Each client’s needs are unique. Typically a procedure runs $1,500 to $3,400. We can better detail your costs if you send photos using our link and form.

Lip Blush Tattoo Permanent Makeup

  • To get the most out of this procedure it’s essential that your lips ARE NOT TOO DRY- if moisturizing is not a regular part of your self care routine, please incorporate it starting 1 to 2 weeks prior your appointment. Additionally, exfoliating with a commercial or homemade sugar scrub is recommended the day before.

Otherwise- see our general FAQ about prepping for a procedure.

  • In a perfect world there’d be no cold sores. If you sometimes have them, please contact your Dr. and begin taking anti-viral medications at least three days before your appointment. If this is not an option, some clients have had success with L-lysine one to two weeks prior and after their tattoo procedure.

Even if you don’t have cold sores often or ever- it’s important to know- the virus which causes them is common and often lays latent in a body until a stressor sets it off. Therefore you may want to consider taking L-lysine prophylactically. If you experience tingling sensations or bumps appear in the days following your procedure, please consult your Dr.

  • They can go great together- but we can’t perform a lip blush on freshly filled lips. Please schedule ten to fourteen days after your fill to book an appointment for lip blush.

  • During your lip blush procedure, your lips may swell. For some clients this happens quite dramatically, for some hardly at all, either way they will return to their normal size in about 24 hours. After that your lips may appear larger, i.e. more prominent because they’ve got new color and a perfect shape.

Scar Camouflage Permanent Makeup

  • Scars resulting from most kinds of surgeries, plastic surgery, accident scars, stretch marks, c-section scars, self harm, skin grafts, and even vitiligo can be good candidates for treatment if the skin is not too raised, and there are no underlying conditions. Flat, light colored scars are typically best treated.

  • We can not work on Keloid scars. Attempting to address their appearance with tattoos will just set back any resolution that may be developing. If your scar is raised and looks like a keloid, but hasnt been diagnosed as such, keep an eye on it. It may simply be an active hypertrophic scar that may flatten and fade in time, and if so it can then be treated.

  • Indeed it does!

BB Glow Permanent Makeup Facial

  • BB Glow Permanent Makeup(PMU) Skin Brightening and Tone Evening Facial uses pigment and nutritional serum to hide blemishes and creates the most supple; even, skin tone imaginable- in the process it boosts collagen production and cleans pores. It’s the premier version of procedures commonly called “Semi Permanent Foundation” ours is the only process licensed by the KFDA (Korean Food & Drug Admin) - a leader in global best practices for the beauty industry.

  • BB Glow is intended and best suited for application on the face. Occasionally clients inquire about using this same process for other areas or to address scars effectively. In such instances, we recommend our Scar Camouflage treatment.

  • The serums, pigments and microneedling produce lasting results with the first application. Best results are achieved after the third session, as it’s a cumulative process. We offer bundled services of three sessions at a discounted rate, which save you money and time and trouble of individually scheduling and paying booking fees.

  • YES, yes it is. Magic, Art & Science!
